The term PBL covers different pedagogical practices. Sometimes the problem is presented to the students as a paper case description, aiming  to trigger self-directed study  activities. The sharing of knowledge in the student groups replacing  lecturers.  In  other  PBL  curricula  the  students  are  challenged  to  resolve  a  problem  from  practice  working together in a project team.

The PBL gives the students the possibility for independent learning to achieve knowledge and skills at a high academic level. Many students also have the possibility of working with the business community to solve real-life problems. The learning model also helps the students learn, how to analyze problems, how to work result-oriented and finally how to do successful work within a team.
